South Africa survived a brutal first-half battering by Samoa as they opened their World Cup campaign with an impressive victory by 59 - 7 this morning.
Wing Bryan Habana scored four tries and Percy Montgomery contributed 29 points.
South Africa, Scotland, Ireland and Wales all registered wins this morning and look good to progress to the quarterfinals from their pools.
Wales beat Canada by 42 points to 17 and Ireland defeated Namibia by 32 points to 17.
In Pool A, South Africa leads with 5 points while England is in second place with 4 points. Tonga, USA and Samoa are yet to register a point.
In Pool B, Australia is on a better point difference than Wales and heads their pool. Both teams have 5 points. Canada and Japan are still without points while Fiji has not yet.
In Pool C, New Zealand is sitting on top with 5 points and Scotland also have 5 points but Romania, Italy and Portugal have not registered any point so far.
In Pool D, Ireland is on top with 5 points while Argentina in second with 4 points and host France is in third place with 1 point. Georgia and Namibia are the other teams in that pool without any point.
