South Africa maintained their run towards the World Cup quarter finals with a less satisfactory 30-25 win over Tonga this morning.

A win it was, and it was convincing enough in the end, with even a bonus point but Jake White will doubtlessly be concerned at just how poorly his reserves played for the first 55 minutes, and even more concerned at the lapse in concentration that took Tonga within a whisper of a huge upset in the final ten minutes.

Only the injection of Frans Steyn, Victor Matfield, Juan Smith and Bryan Habana got the Boks going, with Tonga leading 10-7 until that point.

South Africa led 7 points to 3 at half-time.

In the other Pool A game defending champion England with the inclusion of Jonny Wilkinson kept their World Cup dream alive with a 44 points to 22 win over Samoa.

Wilkinson also marked his presence in the game with 3 conversions, 4 penalty goals and 2 of his trade-mark field goals.

Argentina beat Namibia 63 - 3.
