The Digicel Fiji 7s team went down to South Africa 24-14 in the cup final of the England 7s.
Fiji started on a high in the first half and led 14-10 at halftime with tries to Watisoni Votu and Livai Ikanikoda.
But it was all South Africa in the second half, as Fiji were denied ball possession by the Paul Treu coached side.
Treu said he had a game plan to counter the ever improving Fijians.
Fiji had earlier hammered New Zealand 42-19 in the semi-finals and beat Samoa 26-14 in the quarter-finals.
In other results: England beat Portugal 22-7 to win the Shield final, Scotland beat Kenya 21-19 to win the Bowl final while Samoa beat Australia 22-12 to win the Plate final.
Meanwhile, New Zealand won the ninth Sevens World Series title by beating Argentina in the cup quarter finals.
