A victory for the South Africa 7s team in the Hong Kong 7s will serve the same pleasure as winning a gold medal at the Rio Olympics.
South Africa has never won the Hong Kong 7s but they have been runners‑up three times.
Their last shot at a Hong Kong 7s title was in 2009 and it ended in a heartbreaking 26‑24 loss to Fiji in the final.
They also had Plate wins in 2011 and 2014.
Coach Neil Powell says they will treat the Hong Kong 7s as just another tournament.
Former Southern Kings wing Siviwe Soyizwapi will make his 7s debut for South Africa at the Hong Kong 7s.
Ryan Kankowski, Philip Snyman, and Stephan Dippenaar have also been included in the team.
South Africa is pooled with Scotland, England, and Russia in Pool B.
Meanwhile, Fiji will take on Canada at 12.06am this Saturday in their first pool match.
They will play their second pool game against Korea at 4.24pm Saturday before they face Wales at 8.24pm Saturday in their last pool match.
