Good news for Fijians as all the games of the South Africa 7s and other HSBC 7s World Series matches will be shown live on TV.

World Rugby has announced that it will lift the embargo on the broadcast feed for the HSBC Sevens World Series with immediate effect after the Fijian government agreed to remove World Rugby events from the Television Cross Carriage of Designated Events Decree 2014.

In a statement, World Rugby said central to the government's decision was World Rugby's offer to grant Fiji TV the right to sub‑license on terms agreeable to World Rugby.

The statement further said this positive step serves the dual purpose of extending the broadcast footprint in Fiji, while protecting World Rugby's commercial revenues.

The World Rugby said the agreement was reached following highly constructive dialogue between World Rugby, its rights‑holding free‑to‑air broadcaster Fiji TV and the Fijian government on key issues relating to the non‑consultative and retrospective application of the decree to the HSBC Sevens World Series, Rugby World Cup and Rugby World Cup Sevens, which seriously undermined World Rugby's exclusive and long‑standing deal with Fiji TV.

Meanwhile, Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed‑Khaiyum said they had a teleconference with World Rugby in which a number of issues were discussed.

When asked on how much FBC TV will be paying for the sub licensing rights, Sayed‑Khaiyum said that’s a commercial agreement between Fiji TV and FBC TV.

Sayed‑Khaiyum said the sub licensing is for all the HSBC 7s World Series, 15's Rugby World Cup and Rugby World Cup Sevens.

Fijians Holdings Limited Chief Executive Officer Nouzab Fareed said they are happy with the outcome.
