New Zealand 7s star, Sonny Bill Williams says he is thankful that he sat down with Sir Gordon Tietjens at the start of the year and they worked out a plan to put himself forward all year to try and make it.

Williams says for him coming in this year, he always knew it was going to be tough but it was really hard.

He says he is just trying to make a good impression in sevens now and is really looking forward to next week.

SBW who has won two Rugby World Cups, NRL Premiership and the Super Rugby title says winning the gold in Rio will top it all off.

Williams says he is not surprised to see Jarryd Hayne back in rugby league, saying the code‑hopping superstar simply did not leave himself enough time to overcome rugby sevens surprisingly steep learning curve.
