"It was a cowardly act by a son and you should be punished for your actions."

Those were the words of Chief Magistrate Ajmal Gulab Khan as he sentenced 29yr old Rajnesh Bhan of Navua to 2 months imprisonment for assaulting his 65yr old father last month.

Magistrate Khan highlighted that Bhan entered his father’s room, dragged him out and assaulted him causing injuries to his face.

He also noted that since the incident Bhan now occupies his fathers home while the 65yr old man has to seek shelter elsewhere and that he is not willing to reconcile.

Chief Magistrate Khan said it was a brutal attack on an elderly person with little reasoning and despite Bhans guilty plea he has not shown any signs of remorse.

He said Bhan needs to be punished and others also need to be deterred as he sentenced him to two months behind bars.
