The union subscription deductions of civil servants from their pay will cease from this week following the announcement by the Attorney General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

Some of the unions are calling on the government to continue facilitating their deductions.

The call has been made by the General Secretary of the Fiji Trades Union Congress, Felix Anthony.

Fiji Nursing Association General Secretary Kuini Lutua said the subscription is the lifeline of the union which has a total of 1,200 members around the country.

According to Lutua, the union will now have a meeting to put together a submission to take up to the Prime Minister.

FNA members pay $10 a fortnight to the Association.

Meanwhile Attorney General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum stressed that while making the announcement that it is up to the civil servants who want to be part of the union and they will not be stopped from being part of a union.

However he said the facilitation of the union subscription deduction will cease from this week.
