Permanent Secretary for Education Doctor Brij Lal stressed that this is not allowed after receiving reports that the Arya Pratinidhi Sabha schools and Yat Sen Primary are asking for more money from the parents as they are saying that the government funds are not enough.
Doctor Lal said the extreme action that can be taken is the suspension of the committee.
Prime Minister, Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama has already announced that no family will have to pay any tuition fees, textbook fees, building fees, or any other fee usually charged by schools from Year 1 to Year 8 or Class 1 to Class 8.
To fund this new initiative, the government has allocated $34 million.
Schools will receive $250 a year per child to cover the full cost of tuition.
Out of this $250, $30 will go towards administration and office operations, $50 for the building levy and maintenance, $45 for the stationary levy, $45 for the computer levy, $45 for the library levy, and $45 for physical education, music and arts and crafts levy.
For secondary schools, forms 3 and 4 will attract a tuition payment of $440 per student, Forms 5 and 6 will attract a payment of $485 per student, and Form 7 will attract a payment of $610 per student.
