With the implementation of the Amendment to the Copyright Act today, some DVD outlets who were selling pirated DVD movies have closed down.
However, some remain open and continue selling the DVD's.
We visited Comsol Entertainment today and they have a notice which states that they will continue operating from today.
The sales assistants are telling customers that they have removed all the cinema copies and they are only selling copies of original movies at $1.50 each.
Comsol Manager and President of the Fiji Islands Sound and Vision Entertainment Association Shavnil Gosai said Comsol has removed all the cinema copies and they are only selling originals now.
Gosai said their association membership of 120 video libraries is now directly dealing with the distributers in India and Australia.
The question now is about effective policing as the law is already in place.
When Fijivillage contacted the Police Director Operations Waisea Tabakau earlier today, he said he will have to see the Amendment to the Copyright Act and whether it comes into effect today.
Tabakau said if anyone has any issues about the Copyright Act, they should go and see him or visit any of the police stations.
He said there is no plan at this stage and everyone should understand that they are now people focused not crime focused.
He refused to make any further comments as he said anyone complaining about the breaches of the Copyright Act should visit them.
