Soldiers Celebrate Infantry Day
The celebrations started yesterday with an address by the military's Chief of Staff and Commanding officer of the 3FIR Unit, Lt Colonel Roko Lui Mara at QEB.
As part of the celebration, soldiers are going through an obstacle course competition, a 25 meter range shoot and skills and knowledge tests to test competency and team work.
A route march will be held from the Maritime School in Suva this hour ending with a parade at Albert Park at 8 o’clock this morning.
Military spokesperson,Major Neumi Leweni said the soldiers were also involved in cleaning the Samabula Old People’s Home, the Blind School, Saint Christopher's Home and Tamavua hospital yesterday.
Major Leweni said there will also be a march of the Territorial Forces in Nadi followed by a Live Firing Exercise in the Sabeto area tomorrow. Members of the public are advised to keep clear from the Sabeto area. The soldiers will end the celebrations by the beating of the retreat at the QEB Officers Mess this Friday.
Infantry Day is celebrated every year by Infanteers when valiant heroes like Military Cross recipient Corporal Sefanaia Sukanaivalu are remembered for their brave sacrifices and soldiers are reminded about what it means to be in the infantry.
