Imagine driving down a suburban community or a rural village in Fiji and seeing solar panels in the yards and rooftops of all houses you pass by.

This could be the scene in Fiji in the very near future as the Department of Energy has embarked on projects to ensure every household has a source of power supply and is testing solar energy sources at a number of sites around the country.

Department of Energy's Paula Rokokatia told a recent symposium on renewable energy technologies revealed that they are currently conducting pilot projects with solar panels in Bua, Macuata, Lau, Kadavu and a number of rural villages.

He said a feasibility study will soon be conducted on the use of off-grid solar panels.
