Lautoka soccer striker Netani Momaivalu and his friend Kaliova Rakasaku have been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Lautoka High Court this morning.

While passing out the sentence Judge Justice Kishore Govind also set out the minimum jail terms to be served after which they can apply for their release.

Momaivalu is to serve a minimum of 5 and half years while Rakasaku will have to serve more than 7 and half years before applying for release.

The two were found guilty of murder last week and were remanded in custody.

The two assaulted and stoned a former police support officer last year in Lautoka.

The two were drinking liquor and approached the deceased as he got off from a minivan after drinking kava.

He was found dead along the roadside. The two were arrested after they left some of their items at the crime scene.
