Sharks front row John Smit will captain Springboks to the Rugby World Cup in September.

Smit, who led South Africa to the 2007 title and has captained the team 76 times in his 102 Tests, takes charge for an eighth straight year.

Victor Matfield, who has led the Bulls to the Super Rugby title on three occasions, will remain as vice captain for the Boks.

Meanwhile, Smit will again lead his Sharks team which is up against Brumbies in the Super 15 rugby competition this week.

The match kicks off at 5.10am on Sunday.

Meanwhile, at 7.35pm on Friday, Hurricanes will host Blues in Wellington.
