As Hindus around the country are getting ready to celebrate Diwali tomorrow on a big scale, "Choti Diwali" or "Small Diwali" will be celebrated today.
"Small Diwali" is celebrated on a smaller scale with fewer lights lit and fewer crackers burst.
In Hindu homes, Small Diwali celebrations involve a ritual pooja to Goddess Lakshmi (the Goddess of Wealth) and also to Lord Rama in the evening, and songs in honor of God are sung, and Aarti is performed.
The morning after Small Diwali, the women of the house make beautiful coloured Rangoli in the doorway and courtyard.
A Rangoli is a design usually drawn on the ground in front of the house.
This is done to welcome the Goddess Lakshmi into their homes.
There are many legends associated with the festival of lights or Diwali which will be celebrated by the Hindus around the world.
