The Highlanders have confirmed that first five Colin Slade has suffered a second broken jaw during the side’s 40-18 bonus point win on Friday night and will be out for 10 weeks.

The timing couldn’t be worse for Slade who starred in the Highlanders home wins over the Brumbies and Cheetahs before disaster struck again in Melbourne.

The race to be first five Dan Carter’s All Blacks backup remains wide open.

In this week’s Super 15 clash the Highlanders meet the Crusaders at 7:35pm on Saturday night.

The lone game on Friday night at 7:35pm the Blues host the Rebels in North Harbour.
