A 6 year old student of Banaras Lautoka died yesterday evening after he was hit by a private car.

Police Media Liaison Officer, Atunaisa Sokomuri has confirmed that the class one student was on his way home after school with his sister when the accident took place.

Sokomuri said the victims sister was tying her shoe lace when he suddenly ran across and got hit by the car, which police believe was speeding. The boy died instantly.

The 23 year old car driver has been questioned and released as police await the post moterm report.

The national road death toll is now 30 compared to 27 for the same period last year.
