The Transport Ministry has just revealed that they will be closing the Edinburgh Drive in Suva this hour as a precautionary measure due to the current weather condition.
Ministry spokesperson Sainiana Waqainabete said initially they had planned to shut the road down at 6pm but have moved the time forward due to the likelihood of landslides.
The weather condition in Savusavu continues to worsen with shops closing down and the town being deserted.
Savusavu resident Sunil Narayan said that people have already moved out of town as it is near the sea.
In Labasa, residents are currently experiencing strong winds and rain.
Subramani Achari, a cane farmer of Tabia, said the rain and wind has seen many people in his Naqele settlement opted to stay indoors.
However, Achari said they have not seen any damage so far.
He added that they have brought in all their livestock and have put their hurricane shutters up.
