Golfer Vijay Singh had a good start in the opening round of The Players Champions in Florida.

Singh is three shots off the lead after carding 3 under par 66 to lie in 14th place on the leader board.

Meanwhile Tiger Woods fought back from last week's missed cut with a first round 70 to lie 15th and is four shots behind the leader.

Woods will be toppled as world number one for the first time in 258 weeks if Phil Mickelson, who was also two under, wins and Woods ends lower than fifth.

Australian Robert Allenby and American JB Holmes lead after six under 66s.

Board has met and elected Mike Eagle as acting chairman.
