Fiji's International Golfer, Vijay Singh, who led last year's US PGA Tour to win $US6.6 million and won the season ending playoff crown, is the only overseas based nominee in this year’s TFL/FASANOC Sports Personality of the Year Award.

The three time major golf champion will have knee surgery after this week's season-opening event and will be out of action for five weeks.

Also shortlisted for the award is Fiji's International referee James Bolabiu, who refereed at the Hong Kong 7s finals last year and has since progressed to take charge of his first Test.

Manueli Tulo of Weightlifting has been recognised after claiming a Gold Medal in the Commonwealth Youth Games in India.

Vodafone Fiji Bati coach Joe Rabele is another nominee who coached the team to reach the Rugby League World Cup semifinals in Australia last year which sees the side now ranked fourth in the world.

Through a public voting program which starts today and ends on the 4th of March, the general public nationwide will be encouraged to participate in naming their choice of people who should be recognised for their contributions and achievements throughout the 2008 sporting year.
