North Queensland Cowboys player Tariq Sims is trying his best to learn how to make a lovo.

The 23 year old Fiji Bati player who is in Serua Island for a team bonding exercise called ‘back to our roots’ is part of the lovo making group which includes Akuila Uate, Jason Bukuya, Alipate Tani and Aaron Groom.

Tariq who is in Fiji for the first time says making a lovo is a great experience.


Tariq with his two brothers Ashton and Korbin Sims have maternal links in Ba.

The fishing crew is headed by Melbourne Storm winger Sisa Waqa which also includes, Ryan Millard, Apisai Koroisau and Ashton Sims.

Marika Koroibete, Kevin Naiqama, Darryl Millard and Korbin Sims have been tasked to get some cassavas.

The team will leave Serua Island later this afternoon. 

Former Fiji Bati Jarred Hayne has been selected for the Australian rugby league team for the World Cup in Britain.

Meanwhile Sonny Bill Williams has not been named in the Kiwi's squad.

The Rugby League World Cup kicks off on the 27th of this month with Fiji taking on Ireland in their first match on the 29th.
