Silence is the major obstacle in accessing prevention information on sexual and reproductive health including HIV.

At the closing of the teacher educators “Development and inclusion of Sexual and Reproductive Health in the Pacific classroom workshop, President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau said silence on these issues is a universal problem.

Nailatikau said all too often the topic of sex is considered taboo in cultural and religious circles.

He said in culture and religion, the jokes on sex and sexuality abound and are enjoyed with abandon by all however, when there is a hint of discussion on sex or sex education, it becomes taboo.

The President said this must change.

The workshop was organized by USP School of Education, UNFPA and UNAIDS.
