Sigatoka experiences flooding
The Town Clerk Azmat Khan, said they have closed the market square and market lane area, as these two areas are under one foot of water as well as the Sigatoka Police Compound, Police Barracks and the Provincial Council Building.
Khan adds that they are closely monitoring the situation as it is currently high tide.
Meanwhile, work is underway on Kavanagasau Road in Naroro, Sigatoka. The road is closed to all traffic due to silt on the road and drainage problems.
Police officers at the Korotogo Police Post have confirmed that they are currently trying to move some villagers in Korotogo to high ground due to the high tide this hour.
Sigatoka police have also received reports of flooding in Laselase, Lawaqa and Nasau.
The Nadi Weather Office has called on people to take precautions as heavy rain is expected to continue for the next two days, which is expected to cause flooding in the low lying areas.
Director, Rajendra Prasad said an active trough of low pressure will move over the country in the next two days bringing more heavy rain and flash flooding in low lying areas are expected.
