With a recent survey carried out showing a serious shortage of skilled workers in the country, the Training and Productivity in Fiji is now turning to secondary students to help fill the void.
TPAF Director General, Jone Usamate has called on students of Secondary schools and Tertiary Institutions to carefully choose their subjects and try and fill the technical areas.
Usamate said Fiji faces a severe shortage of skills resulting from continuous and mass exodus of skilled workers.
He said more skilled workers will be needed in the region in the near future.
Usamate said TPAF survey in about 1000 companies shows that there are shortage of skills in all the technical areas including, mechanics, carpenters, welders etc.
Fiji is losing a lot of skilled workers to Australia, New Zealand, PNG and Guam who have migrated for better pay and living conditions and TPAF has increased their volume and quality of training.
