The Department of Fair Trading and Consumer Affairs together with the Mineral Resources Department will be visiting shops throughout the country to detect the sale of any banned or incorrectly labelled fireworks for Diwali.
The Director of Fair Trading Department, Colin Lewis said that a selective ban on fireworks is still in place since 2004 and this involves many brands of fireworks including woodpeckers and rockets.
The Trade Standards Order 2005 requires that fireworks be labelled in English with warnings and instructions for use properly. People are also requested to inform the Trade Standards Office or Mineral Resources Department if they come across the sale of banned fireworks.
Diwali will be celebrated on the 9th of next month.
