A bus load of passengers travelling from Suva to Labasa in a Patterson Brothers Shipping vessel are in deep trouble as they are stranded at Wairiki in Bua.
This has been confirmed by a passenger who called in to say that this is because a portion of the wharf in Wairiki has been damaged.
Police spokesperson Atunaisa Sokomuri who is in Labasa at the moment also confirmed this report and has asked relevant authorities to take heed of the weather reports and avoid travel.
As rain continues in Lautoka, Nadi, Ba and Labasa, the Fiji Red Cross Society have started giving out their disaster relief packs to people in the various evacuation centres around the country.
Disaster Coordinator Vuli Gauna said they are monitoring the weather situation and will activate teams to affected areas as assessment reports come in.
Relief packs contain blankets, clothes, temporary shelter material, mosquito repellants, soap and one pack can cater for a family of two adults and four children.
