In Super Rugby the Sharks remain on top of the Super Rugby standings after beating the Hurricanes 27-9 this morning.

The Sharks outscored the Hurricanes but despite having home advantage they were unable to pull away from the Hurricanes who were playing their first match of the season.

In other results last night the Queensland Reds defeated the Brumbies 27-17.

Brumbies gave a glimpse of their backline power with runs from both wingers Joe Tomane and Fiji born Henry Speight but both were prevented from scoring, by try saving tackles from Reds winger Lachie Turner.

In Dunedin despite the star studded Blues being the favorites, the Highlanders however pulled off the first big surprise in the New Zealand Super Rugby conference when they defeated the Blues 29-21 with a bonus point.

Meanwhile, in the South African Conference the Lions pulled off a surprise victory in Super Rugby when they outclassed the Stormers 34-10 at Ellis Park in Johannesburg.
