The Sharks ended the Reds reign as Super Rugby champions when they smashed the Queenslanders 30-17 last night.

The elimination of the Australian conference winners means the Sharks will face South African rivals the Stormers in the semifinals next Sunday.

The Sharks defence was outstanding, with their forward pack dominant and their backline able to keep the Reds' dangerous back three under control.

Meanwhile the Crusaders have kept their Super Rugby season alive with a clinical 28-13 playoff win over the Bulls last night.

They will now play New Zealand Conference rivals the Chiefs on Friday.

The seven time champions, with big time players all over the park, were at their ruthless best with a steady combination of physicality and discipline that left the Bulls simply shell-shocked.

The semifinals this week are, on Friday the Chiefs host the Crusaders at 7.35pm while the Stormers take on the Sharks on Sunday at 3.05am.
