Dr Shaista Shameem
Fiji Women's Crisis Centre and Fiji Human Rights commissioner Shamima Ali has hit out at the appointment of FHRC director Shaista Shameem as ombudsman and as FHRC chairperson, saying that it is still an illegal appointment.
Ali adds that the appointment is unfortunate as Shameem's utterances after the December 5th takeover has seen her more or less lean towards the interim regime's side.
Ali adds that if Shameem has any integrity at all she would refuse the appointment.
When contacted, the FHRC director Shaista Shameem said she would not involve herself in this exchange of words.
