It was a shaky start for the Digicel Fiji 7's team at the USA Sevens as they were being given a run for their money by the hosts.

Fiji managed to edge USA 14 - 12.

Under pressure early in the match and some sloppy defence saw USA score first to lead 5 - 0.

Fiji came back with tries to Emosi Vucaga and Jerry Burotu.

In other games this morning, New Zealand beat France in their first pool game by 31-12, Australia thumped Guyana 33-nil while South Africa looked too good for Canada beating them by 33-0.

Fiji's second pool game is at 11:50am against Canada and their last pool game against South Africa at 4:14pm.

Argentina is defending champions at the USA 7s.
