Both the shadow national Sevens teams, the Digicel Fiji Barbarians and the FMF Fiji Warriors, have booked their places in the Cup quarterfinals of the Uprising Fiji International Sevens after winning their second round of matches at Churchill Park.

This is after the Timoci Wainiqolo coached Fiji Barbarians side won their second match beating LICI Police 29-14 while the Alifereti Dere coached Fiji Warriors beat Uprising 27-12.

Other teams that have also confirmed their Cup quarterfinal spots are Yamacia, Samoan Barbarians and Australian Thunderbolts.

Yamacia drew 21-all with the Tokatoka Barbarians, Samoan Barbarians beat hosts Lautoka Hurricanes 26-10 while the Australian Thunderbolts won against Samurai Barracudas 19-7.

Fijian players that have stood out so far in the tournament are Fiji Barbarians Captain Setefano Cakau, teammate Josua Tuisova and Manuweli Laqai, FMF Fiji Warriors flyer Benito Eremasi, Filipo Nakosi and Asaeli Vula of Tokatoka Barbarians.

Meanwhile, looking at other results, the Uprising Sevens team players stood tall until the last minute to beat the New Zealand Emerging team by 21-19.

The FMF Fiji Warriors also showed a lot of determination with a 24-19 win over URF Army.

Defending champion Ministry of Health sponsored Wardens earlier lost to Yamacia by 17-14 while Police beat Tonga 24-7.

Meanwhile, Digicel Fiji Barbarians are breathing a sigh of relief after a close 19-15 win over the Lomaiviti Barbarians.

In another match, the Pio Tuwai and Dan Rawaqa led Tokatoka Barbarians side beat FWCC Red Rock 22-5.

The 2011 Uprising Fiji International Sevens champion Red Rock is out of the tournament as they also lost to Yamacia 24-14.

Wardens play Red Rock in their last match at 6.32pm.
