“Throwing water on moving vehicles is not allowed under the Crimes Decree and anyone caught doing so can go to jail.”
This is a stern warning from the Police Operations Director, SSP Rusiate Tudravu who said that a one year prison sentence is the penalty for such an offence if it causes annoyance or danger to any person.
SSP Tudravu said although we are still in the festive mood with the New Year celebrations around the corner, such actions which can lead to accidents will not be tolerated.
Police will be monitoring the situation closely as of today.
Meanwhile, the General Secretary for Fiji Bus Operators Association is calling on people to be more responsible and not throw water on buses on New Year’s day.
Rohit Latchan said that this sort of incidents may be popular this time of year, but can lead to accidents.
He is calling on people to report such incidents to the police.
