The Suva Magistrate’s Court today ordered a serving prisoner to do 300 hours of community service in the prison and not to reoffend for another five years after his prison term ends in July next year.

Maika Barovo, who is serving a five year sentence for robbery with violence, escaping from lawful custody and resisting arrest, appeared in the Suva Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Alsie Hudson for getting involved in a fight with a prison officer after an argument last year.

He pleaded guilty to his charges and asked for forgiveness and informed the court that he has reconciled with the prison officer who was in court this morning to confirm this.

Barovo also told the court that he is part of the Yellow Ribbon project and pastors visit them to counsel them.
