Waisale Serevi is no longer the head coach of the PNG Sevens team.

This has been confirmed by the PNG Rugby Football Union.

The PNG Rugby Football Union has told our sister station in PNG, Nau FM that Serevi is no longer needed as the sevens games are now over and he is free to do as he pleases.

The Rugby Union's Operations Manager, Lawrence Acanufa could not comment further on questions relating to Serevi's contract as he was under the sponsorship of the PNG Mineral Resources Development Corporation.

The PNG Rugby Football Union President Richard Sapias has also confirmed to The National that PNG Rugby decided it was not in the best interest of the union to continue the working relationship.

Sapias, responding to last week's headlines, said there had been off field issues that eventually led to the decision, but added that a proper release on the details of the Serevi deal would be made available at 2pm today.
