Former Fiji 7s player/coach Waisale Serevi was named in the Top Three for the Oceania Rugby Player of the Decade 2000-2009 however the award was won by All Blacks Captain Richie McCaw.

Serevi is still regarded as the greatest rugby sevens player of all time and has now hung up his boots at international level.

Had he had a more substantial career in fifteen-a-side rugby, he may well have walked away with the award.

McCaw is the magnificent captain of the All Blacks and since 2001 has been the best player in his position.

His team, whether it is the Crusaders in the Super 14 or the All Blacks, simply do not function to anywhere near their high standards without him.

McCaw is a fine captain, he leads his men well and he is gracious in victory and defeat alike.

The third player on the list was George Smith.

He has been an outstanding player and ambassador for the game of rugby for both the Brumbies and the Wallabies.
