Police today confirmed that a senior civil servant who was arrested by police Friday evening was allegedly driving under the influence of liquor and charges are expected to be laid against him later today.
Assistant Spokesperson Corporal Josaia Weicavu confirmed that the senior civil servant also allegedly punched a police sergeant and resisted arrest when police went to question him at an apartment in Suva.
Corporal Weicavu said the senior civil servant also allegedly fled the scene after the accident.
Meanwhile, the Public Service Commission is today expected to seek details from the police on allegations leveled against the senior civil servant.
Permanent Secretary for Public Service Taina Tagicakibau said that while they are not aware of the details, the allegations against the civil servant are very serious and the PSC will look into the matter.
