Sending our workers home will be the last option.

Those were the sentiments of Air Pacific Chief Executive John Campbell about flight operations which are currently seeing a reduction in flights, working hours and the encouragement of staff to take annual leave and cabin crew, leave without pay if they wish.

Campbell said they are finding current trading conditions extremely difficult especially with the downturn in passenger and cargo volumes which is a cost impact from devaluation.

The Airline CEO said right now their costs have increased especially when they have to pay fees such as airport, security charges and the various airport and government taxes abroad.

He said this has a big impact on cash flow however they will discuss further options with the unions and principal stakeholders to try to produce results that can keep the company running.

Campbell said this does not currently include redundancies however the possibility can never be ruled out.
