We need to be self sustainable if we are to weather the economic downturn.
Following the advice by the Governor of the Reserve Bank Savenaca Narube for on focus on more exports, Chair of the Fiji Human Rights Commission, Doctor Shaista Shameem said while this advice is good, the Government should focus on local infrastructure development to boost local trade.
However, one move that should be focused on by the Interim Government is the producing of local goods to sustain consumption in the country so that our dependency on exported items is lowered.
Narube had earlier revealed Fiji may have to look at borrowing off-shore to cope with the declining economy and needed to boost exports, tourist arrivals and investments.
