Police are yet to question the security officers, who were on duty on Wednesday night at the Nadi International Airport, when five cartons of cigarettes were stolen from a retail outlet at Nadi Airport by two of its employees.

According to Police, $10,000 worth of cigarettes was allegedly taken out of the shop by two employees in the presence of a customs officer on Wednesday night. Both employees and the customs officer were taken in police custody last night for questioning.

Police have also confirmed that the suspect’s houses were also searched by police yesterday. Police believe there is a racket where things are stolen from retail outlets by employees, and with assistance of customs officers these items are sold.

When contacted, Namaka Police Station Officer Inspector Nitya Nand confirms investigations are continuing and refused to divulge more information. The three suspects are expected to be charged later today and if charges are laid than there is a possibility that they will appear in a special court sitting in Lautoka on Monday.
