While the Fiji Police has stated it will have a zero tolerance policy on cases of assault, a security Officer was yesterday afternoon taken into custody, for allegedly assaulting two Police Officers on duty.

Police Spokesperson, Atunaisa Sokomuri confirms they have laid charges on the 48yr-old security Officer from Suva for allegedly punching two traffic Officers who were booking him for speeding in Nawai, Nadi.

Sokomuri said the man was stopped by these two Officers after they caught him speeding. While writing the man's details and questioning him, the man allegedly punched both Officers.

It has been confirmed that one Officer got a cut on his chin, while the second Officer received a cut on his tongue and had a swollen face.

The security Officer was somehow arrested and taken to Nadi Police station.

Sokomuri said the man will remain in the cell and will appear in Nadi Magistrates Court tomorrow.

He has reiterated that assaulting Police Officers is a serious crime and Police will not tolerate any assault cases.
