Edward Campbell, a security guard of Vinod Patel, was today acquitted of manslaughter by Suva High Court Judge, Justice Isikeli Mataitoga.

Campbell, who was represented by Mehmoob Raza, was found not guilty by three assessors however he was found guilty of assault.

In mitigation, Campbell said that he was attacked by the deceased and acted in self defense.

Campbell was sentenced to 8 months imprisonment suspended for 18 months.

The incident happened in May during a party at the Vinod Patel premises, where an argument erupted between the deceased, Amos Simpson and a friend. Campbell went to stop the argument and brought Simpson out of the party. A scuffle then broke out between the two resulting in Simpson's death.
