More than 200 Fiji soldiers serving under the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq will serve for another year.
This is after the Security Council last week extended the mandate of the UNAMI and decided that it should continue to pursue its expanded role in the country.
Permanent Secretary for Information, Lt Colonel Neumi Leweni said the government welcomes the Security Council’s decision.
The 15 member security council called on the Iraqi Government and other member states to continue providing security and logistical support to UNAMI recognizing that the security of UN personnel is essential for the mission to carry out its work.
