The interim cabinet will soon draw up legislations to revive the National Security Council and the Fiji Intelligence Services.

The decision was made following a submission by Interim Defense Minister Ratu Epeli Ganilau who stressed that the national security landscape both internally and externally is evolving and changing at a very fast pace and this will ensure a safe and secured Fiji from increasing terrorism threats.

The National Security Council was established in 1990 but disbanded in 1999. However, Ratu Epeli said the Defense White Paper of 1997 had recommended the establishment of the council to concentrate on national security matters like espionage, sabotage, seditious intentions, foreign intervention and terrorism.

The relevant laws will soon be promulgated to establish the two bodies and the members of the council will consist of the Prime Minister, Commander RFMF, Attorney General, Minister responsible for defense, Minister for Finance and the Police Commissioner.
