Seaweed is now expected to earn Fiji millions of dollars as an export product.

Fisheries Permanent Secretary Commander Villiame Naupoto has revealed to Fijivillage that two major importers from China and Taiwan want to import seaweed from Fiji on a monthly basis.

Naupoto said another buyer is coming in next month from Taiwan to explore a seaweed farm in Loa, Vanualevu and wants to import Fiji seaweed.

Naupoto has set up a committee to explore the expansion of seaweed farming in suitable areas as it could rake in an estimated $9 million per month in exports for Fiji.
