It has been confirmed that the search is now officially underway for the next Archbishop of the Catholic Church in Fiji.

Certain members of the Catholic Church in Fiji have received letters from the Pope's representative in the Pacific, the Apostolic Nuncio in Wellington Archbishop Charles Balvo, to submit either three or more names of priests they deem fit to succeed current Head, Archbishop Petero Mataca and their reasons for choosing these candidates.

Mataca has retired from the position but is currently looking after administrative matters.

Vicar General Fr Beni Kaloudau said the process is now underway while parishioners Fiji wide have been asked to start praying for a new Archbishop during the mass on Sundays.
