It’s has been five hours since one of the Silos belonging to Flour Mills of Fiji at Walu Bay, collapsed and about 60 police officers and National Fire Authority officials are still trying to find a person believed to be trapped under more than a hundred tons of grain.
Police Spokesperson Atunaisa Sokomuri said the person they are looking for is believed to be a customer who was attending a business meeting at the location.
Sokomuri said they have now brought in bulldozers to prevent the second Silo from collapsing.
A Silo is a large cylinder structure or tower for storing wheat.
Police have cordoned off the area with the Fire Authority, St John Ambulance and Red Cross currently at the scene.
However, FMF General Manager Sales and Marketing Preetam Sakia told Fijivillage that they have just completed a roll call of all staff members and everyone is accounted for.
He said the silo was not occupied when it collapsed and they are now trying to clear the area.
He also said that there were no injuries to any staff when the silo collapsed.
