The Suva City Council needs assurance from Turaga Ni Koro and Village heads that the sea foods are not being poisoned.
During a Health Forum organised by the Suva City Council, Director Health Nacanieli Kotoiwasawasa said many people have admitted to have used household chemicals to catch Mana or mud crab.
Following the death of a woman who had eaten pre-packed food from the Suva Market last month, the council had placed a ban on the selling of pre-cooked sea food and meat in the market, however the ban is expected to be lifted once the Suva City Council is satisfied that it is safe for food consumption.
Meanwhile, Health Ministry's Food Unit Director, Jone Tamani said a team of officers also met with the Roko Tui Tailevu and Roko Tui Rewa to address issues on proper food handling, personal hygiene and food preparations.
