Scientists in Queensland, Australia say they have made a breakthrough which could allow them to eventually control Dengue Fever.

Australian Researcher, Professor Scott O'Neil said that his team has successfully infected the Dengue mosquito with bacteria that halves its lifespan.

He said the achievement could result in the mosquitoes dying before they are old enough to carry the dengue virus as only the very old female mosquitoes are able to transmit the disease to humans.

ABC News Reports that more than 1,000 people in Fiji fell sick with dengue last year and worldwide it causes more than 20,000 deaths a year and infects up to 100 million people.
