Scientists at the University of the South Pacific have discovered a compound which could help develop anti-malarial drugs.
Scientists have found the anti malaria compounds in algae collected from Kadavu, Yanuca Island and Serua and Head of the Institute of Applied Sciences Professor Bill Albersberge said tests show encouraging signs.
However, Albersberge said it could take years to ascertain if the compound can be made into a medicine to cure malaria in human beings.
