A total of 34 schools from around the country will soon have electricity from solar power.

Education Minister Filipe Bole said this has been made possible through the European Union under its Fiji education sector program.

The schools stand to benefit from a funding assistance with a total of $3.363million worth of solar power units, which will be installed in the schools providing them with their source of electricity.

Bole said the choice of solar power over diesel generators is in line with the EU's policy of supporting a clean environment.
